Steps to Follow

  1. Make sure the 'Export to iCal...' dialog is visible.
  2. Make sure the 'Entry' tab is selected.

  3. Change the 'Entry Title' text as desired.

    NOTE: If you have previously done an export and want to make sure your description settings take effect on those existing entries, select the 'Update all existing entries' radio button in the 'Advanced' tab.
  4. Change the 'Entry Description' text as desired.

  5. Click the 'Export' button.

Substituion Rules

As implied by the interface in Figure 1, a number of substituions occur when creating or updating an entry. The following table details each substitution rule.
Table 1: Substitution rule details. The examples use a person named "Joe Schmo" whose date-of-birth is "January 1, 1970" and set today's date to "January 2, 2003".
Format Substitution Example Format String Resulting String
%f The person's first name. %f's Birthday Joe's Birthday
%l The person's last name. %f %l's Birthday Joe Schmo's Birthday
%a The person's age on their next birthday.

This rule only makes sense to use if you are exporting without recurrence enabled.

%f %l's age is %a. Joe Schmo's age is 24.
%d The person's date of birth. %f %l was born on %d. Joe Schmo was born on January 1, 1970.
